South Africa got hosed. It was bad enough to have their goalie get a red card right before the penalty kick, but man, that third goal in the last 2 minutes just hurt to watch.

T.S. Eliot - The Hollow Men
MISTAH KURTZ -- HE DEAD.
A penny for the Old Guy
I .
We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
Our dried voices, when
We whisper together
Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
Or rats’ feet over broken glass
In our dry cellar
Shape without form, shade without colour,
Paralysed force, gesture without motion;
Those who have crossed
With direct eyes, to death’s other Kingdom
Remember us--if at all--not as lost
Violent souls, but only
As the hollow men
The stuffed men.
II.
Eyes I dare not meet in dreams
In death’s dream kingdom
These do not appear:
There, the eyes are
Sunlight on a broken column
There, is a tree swinging
And voices are
In the wind’s singing
More distant and more solemn
Than a fading star.
Let me be no nearer
In death’s dream kingdom
Let me also wear
Such deliberate disguises
Rat’s coat, crowskin, crossed staves
In a field
Behaving as the wind behaves
No nearer--
Not that final meeting
In the twilight kingdom
III.
This is the dead land
This is the cactus land
Here the stone images
Are raised, here they receive
The supplication of a dead man’s hand
Under the twinkle of a fading star.
Is it like this
In death’s other kingdom
Waking alone
At the hour when we are
Trembling with tenderness
Lips that would kiss
Form prayers to broken stone.
IV.
The eyes are not here
There are no eyes here
In this valley of dying stars
In this hollow valley
This broken jaw of our lost kingdoms
In this last of meeting places
We grope together
and avoid speech
Gathered on this beach of the tumid river
Sightless, unless
The eyes reappear
As the perpetual star
Multifoliate rose
Of death’s twilight kingdom
The hope only
Of empty men.
V.
Here we go round the prickly pear
Prickly pear prickly pear
Here we go round the prickly pear
At five o’clock in the morning.
Between the idea
And the reality
Between the motion
And the act
Falls the shadow
For Thine is the Kingdom
Between the conception
And the creation
Between the emotion
And the response
Falls the Shadow
Life is very long
Between the desire
And the spasm
Between the potency
and the existence
Between the essence
And the descent
Falls the Shadow
For Thine is the Kingdom
For thine is
Life is
For thine is the

Robert Frost - Fire and Ice
Some say the world will end in fire;
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if I had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

Czeslaw Milosz - A Song On the End of the World
On the day the world ends
A bee circles a clover,
A fisherman mends a glimmering net.
Happy porpoises jump in the sea,
By the rainspout young sparrows are playing
And the snake is gold-skinned as it should always be.
On the day the world ends
Women walk through the fields under their umbrellas,
A drunkard grows sleepy at the edge of a lawn,
Vegetable peddlers shout in the street
And a yellow-sailed boat comes nearer the island,
The voice of a violin lasts in the air
And leads into a starry night.
And those who expected lightning and thunder
Are disappointed.
And those who expected signs and archangels’ trumps
Do not believe it is happening now.
As long as the sun and the moon are above,
As long as the bumblebee visits a rose,
As long as rosy infants are born
No one believes it is happening now.
Only a white-haired old man, who would be a prophet
Yet is not a prophet, for he’s much too busy,
Repeats while he binds his tomatoes:
No other end of the world will there be,
No other end of the world will there be.

This is sort of stream of consciousness reporting....
So, I was working the AFF. The show Kane was in was The Donner Party. 3 guesses what it was about and the first two don't count. Kane et all actually did not show up til a few minutes into the film. Don't know if they were running late or just trying to avoid crazies or what.
Yes, I am fangirlish enough to have squeed over getting Kane a chair. A twenty second conversation still counts.
The movie was good, if slow. The whole thing was shot in fourteen days. Spoiler: Kane dies. Does not get eaten though. Will talk more about the movie if anyone wants.
They had a Q&A with the actors and the director afterwards, only caught a bit of it. Kane was adorable and funny, as per usual.
Met up with some other fangirls at the show, we hung out, drank, squealed like 13 year old girls with a pony under the christmas tree. The usual, basically.
The show was awesome, they opened with House Rules. Kane was drinking both jack and beers during the show. That boy does not know what to do with his hands on stage. It's adorkable. He also spends a lot of time watching the other guys play. Played rattlesnake smile and it was epic.
Carlson on the other hand spends a lot of time staring at Kane, and also closing his eyes and looking like he's having a very good time. IFYKWIM. I'd hit it, is all I'm saying.
After the show they hung around, Kane signing stuff and the rest of the guys just hanging around chatting. Did get to talk to Carlson, and yes I did die a little bit. He is the sweetest sweet thing that ever was sweet.
Then I wandered around downtown with my shiny new show friends to a 24 hour diner.
And that's the word.
If you really want to know anything else, ask and I will squee. I mean answer.
